Wolfach

Just behind Wolfach railway station, the Way of St James to Breisach branches off from the Kinzing Valley Way of St James. It goes uphill and soon we have a beautiful view back to Wolfach.

We hike along romantic forest paths in the light morning mist.

The Way of St James is excellently marked.

At the edge of the forest on narrow paths, the route climbs gently uphill.

Wiesenweg

Still going uphill.

The lunchtime destination of Gutach can already be seen.

Only 1.8 km to Gutach (Black Forest railway)

We pass the first farms ...

... and finally hike into the village of Gutach.

Peterskirche

St Peter's Protestant Church in Gutach

Peterskirche

A church built by the Lords of Hornberg is mentioned in Gutach as early as 1275. In the 16th century, it appears in the records as ‘Sannt Petters Pfarrkirche in der Guttach’.

Today's church was built in two phases and is one of the few Protestant churches in the Black Forest. The late Gothic choir (from 1504) contains a beautiful sacrament house with secular paintings and a baptismal font from that period. The choir windows (from 1955) resemble an open Bible.

The stucco decorations on the pulpit with the parables of the vine and the good shepherd and the striking ceiling clock are also noteworthy. Gutach's landmark is the onion dome dating from 1781. Memorial plaques on the outside of the church commemorate various Gutach personalities.

Sakramentshäuschen

The late Gothic choir (from 1504) contains a beautiful sacrament house with secular paintings and a baptismal font from that period.

In the afternoon, the second ascent tests our strength, but we finally reach the summit.

The Landwassereck destination comes into view.

After a quick refreshment, or rather a stage beer, we travelled to our accommodation in Oberprechtal in our bus. Oberprechtal is not directly on the Way of St James, but the Gasthof Schützen there has room for us all.

We were well accommodated at the Gasthof Schützen and had a delicious meal.
