Chapel of St James in Grüningen

Chapel of St James in Grüningen: For centuries, the chapel was a much-visited stop on the Way of St James. Today it is the cemetery chapel of Oberrimsingen. The chapel stood in the centre of the village of Grüningen, which was largely destroyed in the 14th century and completely destroyed in the 17th century. In the 11th century, it was the seat of a Cluniac priory in the tradition of the Benedictine reform monastery of Cluny in Burgundy. The patronage of St James of the previous church was first mentioned in 1273, making it the oldest St James patronage in Breisgau.

At the front left we can recognise the wood-carved statue of St James.
