Trip to Kenya in summer 2001 with the Catholic parish of Birmensdorf-Aesch-Uitikon.
The parish had supported a self-help project in Kenya. We were able to get to know the Kenyan project partners and the country and see for ourselves the positive development of the project.
We flew to Nairobi with Swissair, which still existed at that time. In the city itself, ALL tour participants travelled in ONE minibus.
With luggage we drove in two minibuses from Nairobi across the country to Kisumu at Lake Victoria. From Kisumu we visited the project sites (e.g. Holy Cross, Siaya, Bondo) and were warmly welcomed everywhere by the Kolping women in the African way. We were also at Lake Nakuru and in the Masai Mara.
The first stop was Nairobi. There we were accommodated in the Kolping Guest House. On the picture from left to right our driver Walter and the Kolping women Selim, Lucy and Anna, who looked after us.
Fortunately, we were not in the centre of Nairobi on the first day, because it is extremely hectic and chaotic there - and a new experience: whites are absolutely in the minority.
