Wadi Rum is a desert in southern Jordan. It impresses with sandstone mountains such as Jebel Umm Ishrin with its many peaks and naturally formed arches such as the Burdah rock bridge. Numerous prehistoric inscriptions and carvings adorn the caves and gorges carved into the rock, including the Khazali Gorge. Lawrence's Spring is a natural water source named after the British soldier Lawrence of Arabia, who is said to have washed himself there.
The landscape has served as the backdrop for several entertainment films set on Mars or another planet, including ‘Red Planet’ (2000), ‘The Martian’ (2015), ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ (2019) and ‘Dune’ (2021).
We visited the desert in off-road vehicles, explored gorges with rock carvings and took away many beautiful impressions.
