The High Castle, built by the Salzburg archbishops from the 12th century as a missionary and administrative bastion, was extended by the bishops of Seckau from 1218. The castle was the representative seat of the Styrian bishops until 1786 and their summer residence until the 20th century. Today it serves as a congress and conference centre including a hotel.
