The first day of our river trip ended in Peso da Régua. ‘Régua’ means ‘ruler’ in English. The town lies on the banks of the Douro, around 100 km east of its mouth in Porto, in Alto Douro, and is the centre of port wine production.

When we arrived in the late afternoon, other ships were already moored at the quay. The reddish, flat building above the harbour wall is the wine museum, which we visited. There you can learn interesting facts about the history of wine growing in the region.
