The wonder deeds of St James are depicted in five panels.

Virgen de Pilar

The first panel shows the foundation of the Virgen de Pilar church in Zaragoza.

James had been unsuccessful in his first efforts to proselytise in Spain. Then the Virgin Mary appeared to him in a dream. Mary was standing on a pillar. She encouraged him and inspired him to build a church.
