Enns is the oldest town in Austria! For the first time Enns received its town charter in 212 as a civil settlement of the Roman legionary camp Lauriacum (Lorch). Exactly a thousand years later, in 1212, the city was once again granted the still oldest town charter in present-day Austria.
The landmark is the almost 60m high freestanding city tower from the 16th century in the middle of the main square.
