The pilgrimage church of Maria Hilf was originally a Gothic chapel dedicated to St Ulrich. In 1706, the Abbot of Mondsee Abbey, Cölestin Colb, had the chapel rebuilt and extended in the Baroque style. He commissioned the famous altar-maker Meinrad Guggenbichler and had a copy of Lukas Cranach the Elder's famous painting of Mary Help of Christians placed on the high altar.
Today the church is still a destination for pilgrims, but is also used for weddings and baptisms.
The altarpiece is a copy of Cranach's painting of Mary Help of Christians.
