The castle entices to a visit!

Eingang ins Schloss Hohenzollern

The castle, landmark of Sigmaringen, stands on a hill in the city. Castle remains date from the Staufer period around 1200 (castle gate, palace and keep). In the course of history the castle developed from a medieval castle to a princely residence. Since 1535 it has been the seat of the counts and later princes of Hohenzollern. After a devastating fire in 1895-99 the castle was redesigned in classicistic style and the House of Hohenzollern is one of the oldest and most important Swabian noble families.

Interesting guided tours are offered in the castle - in addition to various state rooms there is one of the largest private collections of weapons in Europe. However, photography was prohibited there!
